About Lauchlansbrae School For Dogs

Profile on Pat Morrey BSc.(Hons.) MIACE Member of APDT(No 00208)
Pat started on her route to becoming a dog trainer by taking her own dogs along to her local dog obedience club. She enjoyed the obedience training, acquiring various certificates and trophies along the way. She became an assistant trainer and, after attending a number of Instructor's training courses, qualified as a 'solo' instructor. This experience was then applied by running obedience and agility courses at her local club, and by starting a new 'Pet Dog' training course for them. This latter venture was the result of her increasing interest in the problems experienced with pet dogs. In order to expand her knowledge further in this area, she has attended many courses, workshops and seminars such as those run by the Association of Pet Behaviour Councillors.

When she moved to Aberdeenshire, she started operating her own dog-training enterprise, namely Lauchlansbrae School for Dogs. Pat then studied for her degree with the Open University, comprising subjects associated with her special interest in animal brain and behaviour. As soon as the Association of Pet Dog Trainer's was formed, Pat applied for membership for which she was assessed and accepted.

Pat finds the term 'behaviourist' can be a little confusing and limiting, as its true definition is 'one who studies and analyses behaviour objectively as a method of psychology'. She rather describes herself as a dog trainer who can also help in identifying behavioural problems and then can advise and assist in adjusting the behaviour and/or providing strategies to cope with it.
